• Whether a Shock Test roll can change the outcome for a given base Shock State Index, or the result is a foregone conclusion (Shock rules — Shock State Index). A Shock roll adjusts the index by +2 (CF) … −1 (CS), so:

    • a base index below 5 can never reach 7 even on a Critical Failure (4 + 2 = 6 → None) — always No Shock, no roll needed;
    • a base index above 10 can never fall below 10 even on a Critical Success (11 − 1 = 10 → Dead) — always Dead, no roll needed.

    In both those cases the state is shockStateFromIndex of the base index directly. Only a base index in [5, 10] is decided by the roll.

    Parameters

    • baseIndex: number

      The Shock State Index before the roll.

    Returns boolean

    true when a roll is needed, false when the outcome is fixed.
