The Rock Python is a creature of overwhelming mass and alien physiology. The body is covered in scales arranged in complex geometric patterns of earthy brown, mottled green, and pale cream that provide extraordinary camouflage against rocks, dirt, and foliage. The head is proportionally smaller than the body, with a jaw capable of unhinging to remarkable proportions and an eye positioned to provide monocular vision along each side. The unblinking yellow eye is vertically pupilled and seems to possess intelligence and calculation beyond what serpents typically display. The mouth, when visible, reveals rows of small backward-pointing teeth designed to grip and guide prey down the gullet rather than to tear.
