Cabinet

A standing case of joined panels with doors and interior shelving, usually carved on the door fronts — the piece a decorative woodworker makes to be judged on. A cabinet is furniture and strongbox at once, holding plate, documents, or a merchant’s samples behind a lock. It is far too heavy to move loaded and awkward enough empty that it tends to stay where it was first set down.
