A round-bellied jug of glazed earthenware with a single loop handle and a narrow neck that pours without slopping. The narrow mouth is the point: it takes a stopper cleanly, slows evaporation, and keeps flies out of the ale. Kitchen jugs are glazed inside only, which is cheaper and quite sufficient; a table jug is glazed throughout and often slipped with a band of colour at the shoulder. 1 gallon capacity.
