Cauldron Tripod, Iron

A wrought-iron tripod frame forged in three legs that spread to a stable stance, fitted with a ring or hook at the top for suspending a cauldron or pot over an open fire. Soldiers, tinkers, and field-cooks carry these to cook food or brew medicinal decoctions where no hearth stands. The iron is rough but sturdy; rust gradually eats at the metal if left unwaxed in damp weather, but a properly maintained tripod outlives the cook who owns it.
