A pair of silver hoops or small drops, the ordinary festival gift among townsfolk who can spare a few weeks’ savings. Silver holds a shape better than gold at this weight, so the pieces can be twisted, beaded, or hung with a tiny bell without going out of true. Piercing is done young in most Hârnic households, and a girl’s first silver pair is often reworked twice before it is finally traded away.
