Grooming Kit, noble

Fitted case with an ivory comb, silver hand-mirror, fine perfume and silver implements; a great house's upkeep.

A fitted case of tooled leather over a wooden frame, lined with velvet and closing on a silver hasp. Within: a double-sided comb of carved ivory, a hand-mirror backed in silver, a folding razor with a silver-mounted haft and its own strop, silver tweezers and ear-scoop, a horn tongue-scraper, a phial of fine perfume, a pot of rose-and-beeswax pomade, and a square of fine linen.

Reckoned as its parts: the ivory comb near 40d, the silver mirror something over 120d, fine perfume 48d, and the silver implements and case the rest — a pound in all. It is not a travelling kit so much as a possession, and a servant carries it. Its loss is the sort of thing that gets a household turned out and questioned.
