Metalworking Kit

A heavy canvas roll holding a metalworker’s bench tools: cold chisels and punches of graded widths, engraving burins, hand files in coarse and fine cut, a ball-pein hammer and a cross-pein, a set of drifts, and a spring-steel scribe. Smiths, armorers, and engravers carry such rolls to lay out, cut, and finish stock that has already come off the forge. The tools arrive plain from the toolsmith and are dressed and tempered to each owner’s hand; a master’s roll is recognized by the worn grips and the sharpness of every edge, and it is often the last possession a craftsman parts with.
