A clear oil pressed and distilled from myrtle leaf, clean and slightly astringent. It is a perfumer’s middle note and, being cheaper than the imported oils, does a great deal of quiet work in blends that name something more impressive on the label. Herbalists also wash wounds with it, on the reasoning that what smells clean is clean.
