Spit and Stand, iron

Iron roasting spit on adjustable stand for campfire or hearth cooking.

A long iron rod fitted to an adjustable stand of wrought iron, used to roast game and bread over a campfire or hearth. The spit turns on a pivot at its base while the stand holds it steady above the coals. A merchant or camp cook would pack such a rig; it is heavy but will outlast a cook’s career if kept from rust.
