A heavy iron jaw-trap of forged steel, sprung to snap shut when a plate is depressed. Sized to catch deer and boar, it is set along game trails and hidden beneath leaves and boughs. A hunter or poacher carries one or two; once sprung they can be reset, but a wounded animal often breaks free.
