Fatigue is a form of physical Trauma, measured in Fatigue Levels (FL). Unlike an injury it has no Healing Rate and needs no treatment; instead each instance recovers by its own special rules.
Fatigue comes in three forms, each with its own recovery pace:
| Form | Source | Recovery |
|---|---|---|
| Windedness | Short-term exhaustion from bursts of strenuous effort — melee, running/sprinting, climbing, digging or lifting, swimming, spellcasting, spirit conflict. Much of it is tracked as Personal Fatigue (PF), though the amount depends on the source. | Clears quickly: 10 minutes of rest removes 5 FL, once per hour. |
| Weariness | Medium-term fatigue from sustained effort or exposure — walking/hiking, cold and heat, sleep deprivation, slow swimming, astral journeys, summoning. | Sheds slowly: a 4-hour rest removes 5 FL and 8 hours’ sleep removes 15 FL, one of each per day. |
| Weakness | Long-term fatigue tied to lingering ailments — anaemia, aural shock, disease, malnutrition, and infection. | Does not rest away — it persists as long as the underlying condition does. |
Each instance of fatigue has a specific source and is recorded separately, because each recovers at its own rate.
Fatigue Penalty
The total Fatigue Levels from all sources are added together into the Fatigue Penalty — a penalty applied to all tests (unless a rule says otherwise) and to Move rate.
