Dancing

Performing formal and folk dances; elevating social gatherings with grace.

Dancing is command of the forms current in one’s own culture and station — the figures of a hall, the rounds of a village green, the processional steps of a feast day. What it measures is not whether the character completes the dance but how they looked doing it, which in the right room is a matter of some consequence.

An hour or so of dancing is resolved with a single Dancing Success Value test, and the result colours every attempt at persuasion made over the same hour.

SVPerformance
≤ 0Embarrassing — a −20 penalty to persuasion tests.
1–2Stilted — a −10 penalty to persuasion tests.
3–4Presentable. No modifier either way.
5+Elevated — a +5 bonus to persuasion tests per Value Diamond.

The same reading serves any performance whose worth is aesthetic rather than practical: Singing and Musician use it unchanged, and Acrobatics, Legerdemain and Theatrics borrow it whenever the point of the exercise is to be watched.
