Perfumery is the blending of herbal and mineral ingredients into scent — perfumes, oils, soaps and incense. It is a luxury trade and a devotional one at once, since a great deal of what is compounded is burned in temples rather than worn.
Materials cost 80% of the listed price. What limits a perfumer is not production but custom: each day, a perfumer may sell goods to a total price equal to the Value Diamonds of a Perfumery Success Value test multiplied by the square of the settlement’s Market Size — and, in a place with no market at all, multiplied by one half. The squaring is the whole economics of the trade. A fine perfumer in a village is a fine perfumer with nothing to do.

Perfumery is the most exacting of the trades that develop a nose. A character distracted or unfocused tests their best olfactory skill to register a smell at all, and a perfumer’s is usually the best in the room.
