Ritual Invoking

Acute windedness from channeling power through ritual invocation.

Ritual invoking fatigue is the cost of channeling divine or mystical power through ritual prayer, mantra, or formal invocation. Each invocation draws on the channeler’s body as a conduit — the body warms, breath quickens, awareness sharpens then dulls — and the cost compounds across consecutive invocations within the same ritual. 0–10 fatigue per invocation, depending on the rite’s demand.

Symptoms

Quickened breathing as if after exertion, a flush of warmth across the chest and face, slight tremor in the speaking voice, ringing in the ears, momentary blurring of vision between phrases. The body feels emptied at the close of each invocation.

Progression

A ritualist pushing past their windedness ceiling within a sustained ritual risks the invocation itself misfiring or returning incomplete. Continued attempts produce diminishing power and increasing personal cost.

Treatment

  • Pause the ritual at a natural cadence
  • Sit; drink water; eat a small bite of bread or sacred fare
  • Steady the breath before the next invocation
  • Do not chain invocations beyond the body’s tolerance

Recovery

Ten minutes of rest reduces windedness fatigue by 5.
